One of the easiest type of bread that can be made at home and enjoyed with jam or sour cream or even made into burgers. Since its first boiled before baking, that gives it a great texture & flavour.
450g bread flour
2 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
2 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
4 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoon
salt
200 ml of warm water for the dough
100 ml of warm water for the yeast
Cumin seeds
and sesame seeds to sprinkle on top
Put the yeast with 1 tbsp of sugar into a
large bowl of 100ml warm water for 10 minutes.
Then add the flour with salt gradually with 200 ml of warm water, start kneading the dough using your hands in circular motions bringing in the flour, yeast and water together to form a dough, keep doing it till the dough reaches a non sticky, soft and elastic consistency.
Shape the dough into a ball in a lightly
oiled bowl. Cover with cling film and leave in room temperature for about an hour
till its doubled in size.
Heat oven to 200 deg C.
Lightly dust the dough with flour and divide into 10
pieces of balls and flatten them. Make a 3cm wide hole in the middle of each
ball, twirling the bagel around using your finger or edge of a wooden spatula
or spoon. While preparing, keep the balls in floured surface covered with a
kitchen towel or cling film so they don't dry out.
Boil water in a large pan and add 3 tablespoon sugar. Then slowly drop 3 to 4 bagels at a time and cook for 2 mins, turn them over, when ready they should be puffed and floating on the surface.
Remove and drain.
Sprinkle the cumin & sesame seeds and place them in a
baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven for 25 mins until they
develop a golden brown colour. Place them on a wire rack to cool.
